Needy Children's Christmas Program
In 1986, a Goodlettsville firefighter suggested a program to raise money to provide needy children a Christmas party, complete with gifts and a visit from Santa Claus. The first party was in the Goodlettsville Middle School gym. Funding for the program came from the firefighters and donations collected from area businesses. About 20 children were treated to a party and gifts that year. The next year, funding for the party came from car washes, a craft fair, an Easter egg hunt and donations. K-Mart became the first corporate sponsor and more children were invited to participate.
