Chief Richard Pope

After discharge from the Navy, Richard started as a dispatcher with the department in July of 1972. He was sworn in as full time patrol officer the following year. He has worked in all aspects of police work during his career. Currently, he holds the position of Chief of Police with primary duties being administrative, purchasing and training. He is also the commander of the department’s tactical response team. He is currently the longest serving officer with the department since the incorporation of the city.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from MTSU in 1995 and his Masters Degree in Public Service Management from Cumberland University in 1999. He is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Staff and Command. He has taught as a visiting instructor at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy.
